SLURPS – A New Stage for Contemporary Art (Uusi Nykytaiteen näyttämö) is a traveling festival of contemporary performance arts run by Esitystaiteen Seura. During the summer of 2024 SLURPS visited four Finnish cities – Joutsa, Kajaani, Kuopio and Pori – creating an unique opportunity for the residents and visitors of each municipality to experience various sets of performances.
The client wished for a ”wild, sunny, vibrating and moist” visual representation expressing the SLURPS spirit. The festival cities were assigned with different colors and graphic elements to be used through the events – aiming to create a distinctive mood for each of the them. The cities form a color bursting visual combination collected together by the SLURPS logo. The logo reflects on the title word’s onomatopoetic construction – it’s visual implementation is suggesting the sound it describes phonetically. The graphics and illustrations drew inspiration from nature – i.e. changing weather, plants and pollination – fundamental elements for a festival taking place completely outdoors.
The visual identity was implemented in various different design forms: animation, print (posters & flyers), social media and web.
The SLURPS website is developed by Sonjis Laine. The Instagram artist posts are created by the SLURPS team. Title typeface is Mattone by Nunzio Mazzaferro (Collletttivo).
